Week of March 31 - April 4th

lundi le 31 mars, 2014

Wow, I have noticed a huge improvement in Oral French and comprehension by all students since the return of Spring Break. Students are understanding and speaking a lot more French now, which means I am speaking more and more throughout the day. Very exciting!

This week our letter is Q and q. Similar to p from last week, q is also a "basement letter" (une lettre au sous-sol), which means the stem goes below the line. We are integrating reading and writing of our weekly letters and new vocabulary into our morning messages on a daily basis. New words and phrases on our word wall so far include Bonjour (Hello), c'est (it is), un/une (a in feminine and masculine, and the number 1 is also un).

In math we are now learning to spell the numbers 1-10 (eg. 1= un) and 2-D geometric shapes (un cerle - circle, un carré - square, un rectangle - rectangle, un triangle - triangle). We are also learning the words avant (before) and après (after). This will help us as learn the relationship between numbers. Since Spring Break, I have noticed how quickly students are growing. We will therefore be measuring ourselves now, and again in June to see how much we are growing!

This week we are the school's garbage gobblers! With buckets and pinchers in hand, it is our turn to safely pick up garbage from the playground. This will be a wonderful opportunity to talk about our role as stewards of the land and what we can do to help keep our environment little free.

On Thursday afternoon we will have a special presentation by Ballet Victoria in our gym, and on Friday morning is our monthly assembly.

Have a wonderful week! Mme Elise
