Week of Jan 26th - 29th

lundi le 26 janvier, 2015

Chers parents de division 6,

This week in French Language Arts students are reviewing their regular and irregular verb endings. There will be a quiz on Thursday. We are also learning to conjugate our verbs more consistently into our paragraphs. We are now creating paragraphs with an introductory sentence, 3 interesting details (one per sentence), and a concluding sentence. We will apply this to both French and English writing exercises. We are also continuing to learn what a simple and compound sentence is in both English and French to help our writing sound more interesting.

In Math this week we are continuing to review multiplication and division, as well as read and solve word problems. We are also continuing with time and money. In Science this week are going to experiment building with different shapes to see which ones are the strongest (triangles, squares or arches)? Students are starting to collect recycled materials such as Kleenex boxes and toilet paper rolls for their final building project. More details to come!

Our field trip to the totem carving today was wonderful! Students asked many interesting questions such as: What kind of wood is best for totem carving? How old is the tree? What kind of paint are you using? How are you going to transport this totem? What do the animals represent?

Tomorrow we are celebrating the Québec Winter Carnival. Our French language monitor Mr. Gomez has organized all kinds exciting Carnival inspired games in the gym.  Vive l'hiver!

On Wednesday for Social Studies, students are asked to bring a family cultural artifact (such as a photo, clothing or artwork) from home and share some interesting details about it. For example, where it is from, how did you get it, why is it special?

NOTE: there is no school this Friday January 30th. We will therefore be going to the library on Thursday this week so please bring books for exchange on Thursday.

Tie dye shirts look great. Thank you to parents for your help in making this activity come true!

Have a wonderful week, Mme Garcin
