It's our last week before Spring Break and students are finishing up various work they have been doing. We are reading daily in French, both individually and together as a class. We are working on reading strategies that help us understand what we are reading. For example, looking for picture clues, reading ahead and looking for smaller word that we recognize in bigger words we don't understand. All of these strategies help us better understand and re-tell stories we read. In writing, students are completing another pen pal letter. They are also writing a final, corrected version of a story they wrote about an adventure in the Canadian Arctic. Mr Gomez is also continuing Oral language games through drama, words and guessing games.
In English and Computers, students are continuing paragraph writing using PowerPoint. In math, students are continuing measurement, reviewing multiplication and division up to 10, and learning various ways to do addition and subtraction up to 1000.
Also, students are entering a Nationwide poster contest for WITS, the anti-bullying program. They are sharing their experience with WITS in a creative way! In the gym, we are learning a merengue dance routine, and cooling off on our yoga mats. Students are also learning how to be a mentor for their small buddies by engaging them in a variety of activities such as painting, building and reading.
Students are asked to return all their library books and home reading books to school by Thursday this week. Have a wonderful holiday and see you back at school on Monday, March 23rd, 2015!
