Week of April 27th - May 1st

lundi le 27 avril, 2015

We have some exciting activities this week. Today, students walked to the Wellesley Retirement Home to interview local residents. This interview is helping students gather ideas for the bilingual book they are writing this week, and next, entitled "If I were 100". We also formally invited our new friends to Quadra's 100 year anniversary on Saturday June 6th. Thanks to this book, students are also being introduced to the future tense and will be writing their stories in the past conditional (le passé conditionnel). In French and English reading, students are also working hard at practicing their reading strategies individually and in small groups.

In Math this week, we are continuing to practice calculating the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes. In Geometry, we are also learning to identify the axis of symmetry on shapes, letters and pictures. We will use a mirror (also known as a mira in French) to explore this concept.

In Science today students have planted their sprouted seeds. We will now keep a close eye on them and hope they grow big enough to plant outside. Once they are big and strong enough, they will be coming home for the garden! On Wednesday, we have a special presentation from the Northwest Wildlife Preservation Society about Owls, and other birds of Prey also know as Raptors. We will learn how certain animals live and survive in their natural habitats.

In Social studies, students will continue to learn about Canadian geography. In PE, we are continuing to practice our merengue dance. In Art on Friday, we will be creating our book covers, using arts & crafts by illustrating them with a self-portrait of ourselves as an elderly person. To celebrate our learning in music, on Thursday from 1:00-2:00pm, there will be an intermediate concert with ukulelee and choir club students performing in the gym. Come and join us!

Passez une très belle semaine, Mme Garcin
