Dear families of Div 6,
Today students did an excellent job of reciting the French translation of the poem "In Flanders Fields", by John MacRae (translated by Jean Pariseau). They kept a beautiful rhythm throughout and their French pronunciation sounded wonderful! Thank you for all your support at home by helping your child memorize these lyrics.
Now that our performance is complete, we were able to do our solar system collage this afternoon. Ask your child to recall the order of the planets in our solar system, and some of our their unique characteristics. The collages will be on display in our classroom for the next few weeks.
Please note that there is no school tomorrow because it is Remembrance Day. Once we are back at school on Wednesday we are seeking to complete and review concepts in Math we have been doing since September, such as place value, patterns, mental math strategies and addition/subtraction of large numbers. Meanwhile, students who are ready will begin learning and applying new multiplication strategies up to 5.
In preparation for upcoming report cards (in 3 weeks), students will be doing a French reading comprehension test and some individual reading with me. They will also be doing a journal entry in English as they learn to apply their knowledge of new vocabulary, spelling of common sight words, how to pluralize nouns and differentiate common from proper nouns with capital letters. We are also completing our French stories we have been writing for the past couple of weeks, and will begin the process of finding and correcting our mistakes.
In Social studies we will have some more Indigenous storytelling and begin a sewing project we had planned for last week. Time permitting, we will begin our mapping unit as we learn to read and create various types of maps.
Happy learning, Mme Garcin
