Week of Oct 13th- 16th

Chers familles de Division 6,

Our week today began with an exciting field trip to the museum. Students will be writing about what they saw in their journals. They will learn to use and apply joiner words in their writing, such as 'en premier' (first), 'ensuite' (then), 'et' (and), and finalement (finally). We are also continuing to develop our reading skills through phonics and small group reading.

In Math this week, we are continuing to learn and practice place value, how to read large numbers and how to count by 2's, 5's and 10's and 25's, forwards and backwards. We will also be playing card games to help solidify addition and subtraction skills up to 10.

In English, Grade 3's are learning to read and identify short and long vowel sounds. To complement our study of the Environment, the Sierra Club is coming to do an outdoor presentation on Wednesday afternoon to talk about our local environment. In Visual Arts, last week students learned to mix and create all the colours of the rainbow using only the three primary ones: red, yellow and blue. This week, students will apply what they have learned and be given a blank canvas, free to create what they wish. In Gym last week, we practiced different types of ball passes we would use in basketball and soccer. For example, a straight chest pass and the bounce pass. We focused on body positioning, eye contact and control. We will continue to practice these skills on Friday.

Please note in your calendars next week that school will be dismissed at 11:50am on Tues, Oct 20th and Wed, Oct 21 for Parent & Teacher Interviews. The purple forms with your preferred times were sent home last week and were due back today. I will be sending home your confirmed scheduled time in agendas by this Friday, Oct 16th. If you would like to meet with me, please return this form as soon as possible, or contact me at the school by phone or email. I look forward to meeting most of you next week!

Take care, Mme Garcin
