Dear families,
This is a short week because of parent/teacher meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons (school is dismissed at 11:50am on these days), and a Pro-D day on Friday (no school). Students are continuing to learn French phonics in the mornings and making connection during our silent reading and small group readings sessions in the afternoon. Today, students did an excellent job of reading to their kindergarten buddies!
Students are also developing their writing skills by learning to build a sentence with a subject, verb, noun and adjective. We will build on these skills in the following weeks, by learning to recognize and apply singular and plurals endings, as well as masculine and feminine words.
In Math, all students are reviewing basic number concepts they have been learning since the beginning of the year. For example, patterns, place value, reading large numbers and basic addition and subtraction.
Grade 3's have an English spelling test this week. We are also continuing to learn how to read by looking at long and short vowels sounds, and how to sound them out. Grade 3's have also been learning to read large numbers and place value vocabulary in English up to one hundred thousand! For example, how do we say 437,213 and how many thousands are there? Seven!
I encourage everyone to practice the dictée and/or spelling and read in French for 15-20 minutes each night. These routines builds good study habits and helps solidify concepts learned in class.
Have a wonderful week, Mme Garcin
