Week of Sept 30 - Oct 4

 lundi le 30 septembre 2013

Dear Div 16 families,

Today, students had a visit from Constable Matt who came to talk about the role police officers play in the community. He also talked about WITS, a way for students and adults to make safe and positive choices when faced with peer conflict.

Tomorrow, we have a special visit from Leslie at the Native Friendship Centre. The first of a series of 3 visits, Leslie will begin her "Box of Treasures" with some storytelling. In November she will also be taking us to the museum and doing a First Nations craft activity.

Thursday is school photo day. Also, if you want to submit your October scholastic book order, please submit it to me by Thursday (check only please).

This week, our colour unit continues as we move from red (rouge) to yellow (jaune). We will learn all about yellow by exploring the classroom, collecting leaves, drawing and doing other craft activities. Students are continuing to practice writing their names, saying the alphabet and counting to 10.

A reminder to send scrabooks and family photos to school with your child. If you don't have a colour photograph or colour printer at home, feel free to email me a photograph and I can print it on the school's black and white printer (ehoefer@sd61.bc.ca).

A class contact list is coming soon, I just have a couple more contacts to get a hold of. Have a wonderful week!

Mme Elise

Week of September 24-27

mercredi le 25 septembre 2013

Bonjour!

It was wonderful to meet most of you at last week's Open House! I am currently putting together a classroom contact list and I will be emailing it out very soon. You can use this to connect with other parents, plan play dates, etc. I am also collecting family photos to post in the classroom. Please send a photo/colour print to school with your child.

This week, students are continuing to learn their routines, how to spell their names and the days of the week. In math, we are learning ABAB patterns and how to count to 10.

You can help support your child at home by reviewing these above concepts and vocabulary in English.

Have a wonderful week,

Mme Elise

Getting Started

lundi le 16 septembre, 2013

Dear Division 16 families,

We have started our Kindergarten program with enthusiasm! Students are already learning to count from 1-5 and sing the alphabet in French. Songs and play-based learning are some of the ways we are learning the curriculum and routines of the classroom. I will post a minimum of one post per week to keep you up-to-date on what we are doing. I will also include at least one post per semester informing you about our themes. For example, September is all about learning numbers 1-10, letters starting with Aa, colours, printing our names and simple patterns. You can also check this site and the Quadra website regularly for special events, field trip information and classroom news.

You are invited for an open house this Thursday, September 19th from 6-7pm in your child’s class (room 107). This is a very informal gathering where your child is going to give you a tour of their classroom. Please come and introduce yourself to me, and I will do my best to answer all of your questions! Please bring a FAMILY PHOTO with you so that we can post it on our family wall!

Please remember to check your child’s backpack and purple folder daily for important school and classroom information. Below is a list of labeled items your child needs for his/her classroom in case they do not yet have them…

1 pair of indoor Velcro running shoes for the school and gym (please ensure their exterior shoes are also Velcro, unless they can already tie their shoelaces by themselves).
1 water bottle with your child’s name (leak proof with spout, no screw lids please)
1 change of clothes in a large clear Ziploc bag with their full name on it (a shirt, underwear, pants and socks).
1 large backpack (large enough to carry a lunch bag AND a regular size communications folder for newsletters, field trip permission forms, etc).
1 box of Kleenex
Refer to the 2013/2014 Kindergarten student school supply list (on the Quadra website and handout given on the first day) and send these items if you have not already done so.

Feel free to contact me if you need help with any of the items above. No child will be denied access to any resources due to financial limitations.

Hopefully see you on Thursday!

Mme Elise
