Week of Dec 16th - Dec 20th

Bonjour L'hiver!

That's the title of our Winter Concert song students are singing on Wednesday. To view this song click here: Bonjour L'hiver. Thursday morning we are going on our Field Trip to Craigdarroch for a tour and craft activity. On Friday is Pyjama Day, starting off with a Pancake Breakfast and a special holiday movie!

Today students made Gingerbread Houses with their big buddies from Mrs Kivell's class and we will be decorating them with candy tomorrow, yummy.

Our colour this week is gold (l'or) and our letter is G and g. We will be doing a golden coin collage in our directed centers and looking around the classroom for anything gold. Maybe students can find more gold at home and in their community! We are also looking around the room and in our books for the letter G and g. In French, this letter is pronounced in two ways. G as in great (same in English), and g as in Japan (the j sound in English). Encourage your child to find these letters in their French books and in public places. This can help solidify new concepts.

Friday is our last day before the holiday. See you back at school on Monday, January 6th, 2014. Have a wonderful and relaxing holiday!

Elise

Week of Dec 9th - 13th

lundi le 9 décembre, 2013

Chers familles,

This week our letter is F and f. Our colour is silver (argent). In social studies, students are learning about empathy, kindness and love as we show and share our gratitude towards others who share their time and energy with us. For example, this week we are visiting our local Seniors Home and have created a book with pictures full of winter and holiday joy. It will be presented in a thoughtful way at the end of our visit. In Physical Education (PE) we are exploring some of our favourite activities through centres we are setting up in the gym. They include hockey, elephant feet, balls, hoola hoops and banana cups. We will continue to explore all the gym equipment we have and learn how to use them safely.

This weeks special events include a walk to our local Seniors Home on Tuesday morning. On Thursday we will be in the gym to find gifts for others at our annual Loonie Emporium. You may want to send your child to school with some extra large bags so they can bring items they purchase home with them. Also, please remember to return the Loonie Emporium envelope back to school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We also have a few extra music rehearsals as we learn to walk on and off the risers safely and quietly.

We hope to see you all next week at our Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 18th from 1-2pm in the Richmond gym.

Take care everyone! Mme Elise

Week of Dec 2nd - 6th

lundi le 2 décembre, 2013

Dear parents and guardians,

December is already here and first report cards have all gone home! This week our colour is green (vert) and our letter is E and e. We are also learning to pronounce the four different sounds that E makes in French; e, é, è and ê. In art we are doing a variety of craft activities related to First Nations animals, evergreen trees and the colour green. In math we have started learning numbers up to 30 through song, and in science we are continuing our science experiments. Last week we had 2 experiments. The first explored  'Physical Change' when mixing two colours of dye to create a new colour. The other one demonstrated the 'Conservation of Momentum' by tapping a coin into a row of five others coins to see the coin on the opposite end move away. Students can try these easily at home!

On Tuesday we have a special visit from Leslie from the Native Friendship Center. She will be doing a craft activity with us. In music, students are rehearsing for the Primary Concert. On Friday we have our monthly assembly.

By the way, December calendars are going home tomorrow. There are many fun and educational activities you can do with your child that compliment what we are doing at school. If you choose to do these activities with your child, I can provide them with additional positive feedback for all the hard work they are doing at home :)

Bonne semaine!

Mme Elise
