Week of Dec 1st - 5th

lundi le 1 ier décembre, 2014

Chers familles de division 6,

This week, students are learning to write letters in French. Today students have begun writing their planet post cards. These will be sent home via Canada Post! Also very exciting, we have just received our first letter from our Doncaster pen pals. Students will write a response letter and continue to correspond throughout the school year. All of our letters include an outline, a rough draft, corrections and a final draft. Applying spelling, grammar and punctuation are very important. Now that students are in Grade 3, they are also learning and applying all these important aspects to their English writing. Once these two French writing projects are finished, students will be writing a letter to Santa in English.

In Oral Language, students have done a wonderful job of reading and presenting their constellation stories. They will be posted in the classroom for everyone to see! Students also continue to read on a daily basis. We are currently working on sustained reading for up to 10-15 minutes, where students select one interesting book and read independently the entire time. Next term we will read in pairs, with specific goals in mind.

In Math this week students are playing a variety of multiplication games using dice and cards. They are also working through a variety of words problems. We are continuing our graphing skills as we chart the changes in the weather. Below 0 temperatures are making for interesting observations and discussions.

In Art last week, students made festive gift boxes, and this week we will start making paper chains to decorate the classroom. In PE we are continuing our soccer unit and our rhythmic gymnastics has been postposed until further notice due to an ankle injury sustained by the instructor.

In Social Studies, we will continue our First Nation's sewing projects this week. In Science this Wednesday afternoon we have a special visit from the Vancouver Aquarium AquaVan! They come to inspire stewardship of aquatic habitats and the discovery of connections between animals, environments and ourselves with hand-on activities.

Passez une très belle semaine! Mme Garcin
