Week of May 11th - 15th

Chers familles,

In French Language Arts this week, students are learning about the future tense - future simple. We are comparing the similarities and differences of this tense with the present, passé composé and imparfait. We are starting with regular -er verbs such as manger (to eat). Students will also be writing in their journals, reading in small groups and reading individually with me throughout the week.

English Language Arts and Science will be integrated into an animal PowerPoint project that students are beginning tomorrow. Students will be developing their reading, scanning, summarizing, writing, research and presentations skills, while learning about their animals and its habitat.

In Math this week, students are reviewing their basic multiplication table (up to 10) and will be given a short fill-in-the blank quiz on Friday. About half the table will be left for them to fill in. I encourage them to familiarize and memorize as much as they can. This will help them as we start to do 2 and 3 digit multiplication. Students will also get an introduction to fractions this week. For example, they will learn to represent basic fractions such as 1/2 and 3/4 with pictures and the vocabulary for the nominator and denominator.

In Social Studies, students will resume their study of Canadian natural and political geography this week. In PE, we are doing a short gymnastics unit while we continue to polish our dance routine. We will soon set a date for our performance! We will also be doing soccer outside until the end of June.

Note that this Wednesday evening, May 13th from 7-9pm, you are invited to come see their finished bilingual books in the gym. On Friday, we are looking forward to part 1 of 2 visits from local artist Renee Sala. She will be guiding us through our school-wide Friendship Flat Art project, which is another exciting activity celebrating Quadra's 100th birthday.

Have a wonderful week, Mme Garcin
