Week of March 30th to April 2nd 2015

Chers familles,

This week is an exciting one. We are starting our week with Math by creating a graph using Smarties. Come and see them on display! This week in Math we are also reviewing how to read time and money before moving onto measurement. In addition to this, students will continue to explore different ways of multiplying and dividing single digit  numbers.

In French Language Arts, students are continuing to learn the past tense Passé Composé. We are learning to: identify this tense in sentences, conjugate them with fill-in-the blanks, write about our past experiences in our journals and highlight our use of this verb tense when speaking orally in-class. Students are also practicing their reading and reading strategies in small groups (on a weekly basis). Last week we focused on Oral Fluency (in particular liaison), the identification and pronunciation of verbs ending in -ent (pronounced e) and finding high frequency words.

In English this week, we are completing our Flat Stanley Poster projects. Come and see them on display in the hallway!

In Science this week we are starting our Plant Unit. Today we have a special outdoor presentation by the Sierra Club. This program, called "Going Wild", will engage students through their senses, interactive games and artifacts from our Coastal Rainforest ecosystem. For example, students will learn about wild products, ecosystem dynamics and stewardship of the forest. This will lead nicely into our study of local plants, their life cycles and why they are important to other living things.

We are also meeting with our buddies this week for an Easter Egg decorating activity. Last week, students created a mini egg basket from recycled tubes, which we will use to bring our eggs home with on Thursday. In the gym we are continuing dance and yoga.

Have a wonderful Easter and see you back at school on Tuesday, April 7th.
