Week of May 24th - 27th 2016

Chers familles de division 6,

This week in French Language Arts, grade 2 students are reviewing common sight words. Grade 2 and 3 students are using their story outlines to write a draft. They are using their knowledge of vocabulary, using the word wall, referring to the dictionary, applying grammar rules and conjugating verbs. These drafts will be corrected and final versions will be written next week. Students who are finished their stories are reading them aloud to the class. All students get an opportunity to practice their oral reading and presentation skills as they finish their stories.

In Math, grade 2's are finishing a graphing and probability unit this week. Next they are learning about financial literacy, which is a new topic this year in the BC curriculum. In grade 3, students are continuing their geometry unit by learning about axes of symmetry. Later this week, they will get an introduction to probability using dice.

In English and Science, grade 2 and 3 students are writing a PowerPoint about an animal of their choice. In this process, they are learning to read text and summarize into simple and compound sentences. The Science portion of this assignment includes summarizing information about their animals' habitat, physical appearance, predator and prey, reproduction and interesting facts. Aside from this project, they are also reading short stories and answering comprehension questions. Once a week, students are allowed to read in English at school. Grade 3's are also encouraged to read often at home, especially by using their RAZ Kids account (audio books).

In PE this week, students had their last tennis lesson today. We will do a few more track activities later in the week. Next, we will do soccer and yoga until the rest of the year!

Instead of Art, we are going on a walking field this coming Friday May 27th, to Crystal Pool.  We are going to meet and swim with our Doncaster pen pals. Remember to pack your bathing suit and towel on Thursday evening.

Have a great week everyone!
