Week of Nov 21th - 25th, 2016

Chers familles,

In French this week we are learning to conjugate regular verbs ending in -ir. After reading the amazing stories student have read, we will review some key grammatical concepts such as: plural/adjective agreements, masculine/feminine. We will also play a game using words and images to learn adverbs, in particular place adverbs (e.g close, far, beside, under, ect). Some students will complete the final good copy of their stories, and some students will continue to read their stories to the class. If time permits, we will also continue to write our pen pal letters. On Wednesday afternoon, students will read to their little buddies in Kindergarten.

In Math, students are continuing to learn multiplication through practice and games. Games such as bingo and cards can help students learn and memorize their multiplication table up to 10. In English, students will learn to identify the short i sounds, such as big, lip, sit. They will also practice reading and finding this sound in text.

In Science this week students will be asked to identify a question they have about space, matter, atoms and thermal energy (topics covered in science throughout term 1) that can be proven scientifically. We will then look up these questions on the internet. In Social Social studies we will use our talking sticks to share what we have learned about First Nations cultures locally, and in other parts of Canada. Students worked in groups to research traditional aspects of various First Nations culture such as food, shelter and clothing. Each group will present their findings.

In Art, students will be introduced to printmaking on Friday. Students are also continuing to learn about "zones of regulation", a program aimed to help students identify their emotions and use strategies to manage their feelings and actions.

If anyone wants to submit a December scholastic order, I will collect them until this Friday, Nov 25th.

Happy learning! Mme Garcin
